Key Takeaways

Don’t have much time? Here’s the summary of what we’re talking about:

  • Ford's Mixed Engine Legacy: Ford has its share of both laudable and avoidable engines. While some engines have been celebrated for their reliability and performance, a notorious engine is infamous for its unreliability, mainly due to issues with its spark plugs. Despite its popularity in models like the F150, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercury Mountaineer, this engine requires meticulous maintenance to avoid problems.

  • Best Years for Ford Diesel Trucks: For diesel truck enthusiasts, our article promises insights into the best years for Ford diesel trucks, highlighting models known for their longevity and robust performance.

KERN’S CORNER

Is this the WORST Ford engine ever?

Most of the time, when we think of Ford engines to avoid, one in particular comes to mind. I bet you're thinking of it right now, and you're right.

That engine, in particular, is terrible. However, that's not the only Ford engine that you should avoid. Unfortunately, for Ford, there are other lousy powerplants that you shouldn't even poke with a 10-foot stick.

At the same time, Ford has produced some excellent engines that perform well and, most importantly, are reliable. After all, the company has existed for more than 120 years!

So, what makes this (in)famous Ford engine so unreliable? It all has to do with the sparkplugs.

They have quite a temper, especially if you don't tend to them, but that shouldn't be a surprise.

After all, we've covered how essential maintenance is for a long-lasting engine. Ironically, this engine is quite popular. You can find it in the F150, Lincoln Navigator, and Mercury Mountaineer.

Now, we'll be the first to say it. We know that there's a lot of debate surrounding this engine.

Some people even consider it a good engine, as long as you are religious with the maintenance. Therein lies the problem.

As these engines become older, the chances of finding one that has been perfectly maintained are slimmer. Buying a used car is sometimes a lottery, and the risk is higher with these engines.

At the same time, we also recognize some excellent Ford engines. Some of the names that come to mind are the Godzilla 7.3L V8 (I've always loved that name!), the Coyote 5.0L V8, and others.
