A legendary truck ceases to exist

The consequences are almost immediate

The week starts off with even more movement in the automotive sector and we’re always keeping up.

By the way, did you know that the first use of a ram in Dodge vehicles was in the 1930s?

That’s a hint of what we’re covering today.

Key Takeaways

Don’t have much time? Here’s the summary of what we’re talking about:

  • The RAM 1500 ends production, and the consequences are almost immediate for auto workers

  • A famous automotive show is making a comeback, with less craziness

  • We’ve tested an excellent car wax

  • We discuss the best shocks for the Toyota Tacoma

IN THE KNOW

The RAM 1500 Classic ends its production run. The consequences are immediate.

These are unusual words to write, especially in an automotive newsletter. However, it’s indeed this way. The RAM 1500 classic is no more. Although it shouldn’t come as a surprise, the news is still, if only, a bit rattling.

The RAM 1500 entered the marked in 2009 (although the Dodge Ram existed long before that), when Chrysler (or whoever owned them at the time) spun off the brand. Since then, it was the third-place contender in the never-ending American truck battle.

The problem is that RAM was the unfortunate sufferer of a parent company that never managed to right the ship.

What’s more is that the brand’s demise had direct and immediate consequences. After all, if there are no RAM 1500s to produce, the cold, hard truth is that there’s no need for the factory. Here’s how many workers will be laid off.

An iconic MTV car show is making a comeback, but not how you think.

Do you remember the 2000s and the avalanche of crazy car shows that we got. Those were good times (even though the cars weren’t). One show stood above the rest for its sheer craziness: Pimp My Ride.

Granted, as the truth came out, it turns out that most, if not all, of the modified cars were fake, but we did believe that there was a minivan with a popcorn machine out there. The fact is that those shows helped paved the way for automotive YouTube of nowadays.

The problem is that those shows vanished from regular TV, and we could sure use them. Well, you can now celebrate that Pimp My Ride is back, sort of.

Netflix has launched a new, eight-episode show where professional mechanics and comic Chris Redd take on modifying cars. The twist? It might not be as crazy, and that’s a good thing.

TIPS AND KNOW-HOW

Is this the best car wax we’ve tried?

We love testing new products on Four Wheel Trends. Our founder, Kern, has tested this  product for months now. Yes, he did ask for car wax on his birthday,  but don’t we all?

Here’s something that we’re looking to add more of in our newsletter: an unsponsored long-term product review with our transparent opinion.

In this case, we’re testing McKee’s 37 Graphene Deep Gloss Ceramic Sealant, and here’s what we think.
