IN THE KNOW
The political battle for Fiat
Many in the US remember Fiat as that Italian company that made quirky cars, then disappeared, then came back, only to make more of those quirky cars.
By the way, it hasn't disappeared again (yet). So, if you haven't heard from them, there's a perfectly good explanation: nobody buys them.
Fiat sold a whopping 602 vehicles in the US in 2023.
However, outside the US, Fiat is a big deal. Its small, sensible hatchbacks, which offer excellent fuel mileage and look the part, are major sellers in countries such as Algeria and Turkey.
Of course, then there’s Italy. They’re huge there, and people love the brand.
The problem is that, in Italy, authorities feel that Stellantis (Fiat's parent company) has abandoned all efforts to develop the industry.
Giorgia Meloni, Italy's Prime Minister, wants Stellantis to invest more into Fiatr, specifically potentiating the industry within Italy and not outside it.
This isn't new, as Meloni has had a longstanding duel with Stellantis, going back to the merger with Peugeot. She has exerted even more pressure on Stellantis as tensions rise.
One example regards Alfa Romeo. Apparently, you can only call them Alfa Romeos if they're produced in Italy. So, Stellantis has had to ditch specific nameplates, and there are other conflicts. Read more on how this battle could deepen in the coming months.
Insurance could spike by 50% in these three states
Most vehicle owners would agree that the last thing we need is for insurance to become more expensive. Yet, this has happened practically every year, as insurance has increased 45% since 2021.
The problem is that there are no signs that it will slow down, especially in three states. These three locations could see insurance rates jump to 50%, with one reaching 61%.
Though there are many reasons, one stands out as surprising: the weather.
So, once again, car owners will have to organize their finances to pay for insurance.
However, that doesn't mean that all states will see an increase. Some might even see a drop.
BEST AND WORST
What hybrid has the highest towing capacity?
It's not common to think of hybrids as an excellent choice for towing. We're still trying to adjust to the idea that hybrid powertrains are as good as their gasoline or diesel counterparts for pulling heavy loads.
However, that doesn't mean there aren't hybrids with excellent towing capacities. Moreover, some of them might even surprise you.
So, we've compiled a list of which hybrids have the highest towing capacity.
Read more to find out which hybrid ranks at the top, plus a bit of personal insight on using them for work.
